Alert
An alert automatically searches the latest update
of a database and then sends the results to a user by e-mail or via RSS.
There are three types of alerts:
- A table of contents alert sends the table of contents
from the most recent issue of a journal.
- A citation alerts notifies a user whenever an article
has been cited by a new article.
- A search alert automatically sends the results
of a saved search history.
Alert Creator
E-mail address of the person who set up the alert.
Alerts Limit
The total number of search alerts that your
institution has purchased.
Alerts Limit
The total number of search alerts that your institution
has purchased.
Alerts Used
The number of search alerts in active use. This
number should be less than or equal to the alerts limit.
Alert Recipient
E-mail address of the recipient of the alert.
Alerts Remaining
The alerts limit minus
the number of alerts used.
All Databases
All Databases refers to a search of data aggregated from all databases in your Web of Knowledge subscription. It is not the same as a multi-product report.
Average Length
Sum of all time spent in Web of Knowledge
divided by the number of portal sessions for the time period. This includes time
spent in products that can be accessed through Web of Knowledge, as
well as portal activities such as updating preferences.
Average Use
Average (arithmetic mean) of the numbers in one
column in a Usage Report table.

Citation Event
A citation event is an action that uses the citation
data in Web of Science. A citation event is recorded when a user clicks
one of the following buttons or links:
- Search on the Cited Reference Selection
page
- Lookup on the Cited Reference Lookup page
- Related Records on the Full Record page
- Times Cited on the Full Record page
- Cited References on the Full Record page
- Citation Report on the Summary
page
In Web of Science, certain citation events
count twice, once as a citation event and once as a query. For example, a cited
reference search in Web of Science counts as a citation event and as a
query.
Citation Report
The Citation Report provides aggregate citation
statistics for a set of search results in Web of Science.
CPCI
Abbreviation for Conference Proceedings Citation Index. CPCI-S is the Science edition. CPCI-SSH is the Social Sciences and Humanities edition.

An inter-product link takes the user from one Web of Knowledge database to another. An inter-product link is recorded when
a user clicks any of the following:

- A cited reference link to a full record in another

IP Address
A 32-bit number that identifies a computer that
can send and receive messages over the Internet.

Abbreviation for Journal Citation Reports®
Last Name
Last name (family name) of registered user.
Link-in
A link-in takes the user from a ResearchSoft
product (EndNote, ProCite, or Reference Manager) to the
full record in an Web of Knowledge database. A link-in also counts
as a Record Viewed in the target database.
Logins
Number of logins (successful and unsuccessful) from
the EndNote Web login page, Cite While You Write plug-in prompt in MS
Word, Internet Explorer and Mozilla browser plug-in prompt, and EndNote Desktop
using the Transfer References tool.
Maximum Actual Users
The highest number of users who are logged on at
any point during a 24-hour period.
Note: you may find occasions when the number
of maximum actual users exceeds the number of maximum
contractual users. This anomaly can occur if, during a period of high use,
a server goes into redirect and an overlap session is created on the second server.
Maximum Contractual
Users
The maximum number of simultaneous logons permitted
by the terms of a subscription. This number should be constant from day to day
for the duration of a subscription agreement, unless the agreement is modified
to increase or decrease the number of simultaneous logons.

MI
Middle initial of registered user.
New Users
Number of users who registered for an EndNote
Web account through myendnoteweb.com, and users who registered in Web of Knowledge and saved references to EndNote Web or visited
EndNote Web after registering in Web of Knowledge.
New References
Number of new references added using the Internet
Explorer and Mozilla plug-ins Capture button and New Reference clicks in the EndNote
Web left navigation pane.
Query
A request that returns results from a database.
A query is always recorded when a user clicks the Search button in a product.
A query is also recorded when a set is created by an alert.
Other queries are recorded by specific user actions in individual products.
A remote query is a query submitted to
a database from a product outside Web of Knowledge. For example,
a query submitted from EndNote to Web of Science is reported
as remote query.

Records Emailed
Number of records e-mailed when a user clicks the
E-mail button.
Records Exported
Number of records exported to EndNote®, ProCite®,
or Reference Manager® when the user clicks the Export to Reference
Software button.
Records Ordered
Number of records for which full-text source documents
are requested when a user clicks the Order Full Text button from the Marked
Records page.
Records Printed
Number of records that are displayed when a user
clicks the Format for Print button.
Records Saved
Number of records that are saved to a file when
a user clicks the Save to File button.
Records Viewed
The number of full records
displayed. Records in a summary list of results are not counted as records viewed.
A link-in from a ResearchSoft
product to a Web of Science record counts as a record viewed in Web
of Science.
RSS
RSS, which stands for Really Simple Syndication
or Rich Site Summary, is an XML-based technology that enables users to collect
and monitor updated content from different Web sites.

Session
Number of successful logons (connections) to Web of Knowledge.
Subsession
Number of successful logons (connections) to a product
accessed through Web of Knowledge.

Time Range
A three-hour time period, based on a 24-hour clock
following the Universal Time (UTC) standard.
TOCs Viewed
TOC stands for Table of Contents.
TOCs Viewed is the number of tables of contents viewed in Current Contents
Connect. In addition, a TOCs Viewed is recorded when a user clicks
a Table of Contents link from another product. This link is available only
if Current Contents Connect® is part of an Web of Knowledge
subscription.
Token ID
An encrypted identifier supplied by Thomson Scientific
that is used as an alternative to the IP Address to uniquely identify a computer
connected to the Internet.
Top Capture Sites
URL list of top sites where Capture was used with
the Internet Explorer and Mozilla plug-in (EndNote Web).
Total Items Requested
This is the sum of the numbers in the same row for
these variables:
- Records Viewed
- Records Exported
- Records Saved
- Records Printed
- Records Emailed
- Records Ordered
- TOCs Viewed
- CWCs Viewed
- eSearches Viewed
Total Pages Served
Number of pages served from the EndNote
Web site.
Total Queries
Total queries include queries
executed in a product database and Web Services queries.
Total Subsessions
Total subsessions include subsessions
established in Web of Knowledge and Web Services
subsessions.
Total Use
Sum of the numbers in one column in a Usage Report
table.
Turnaway
A turnaway is recorded when a user is denied access
because the maximum number of simultaneous logons has been reached.
Unique User Use
Sum of the number of unique users in one column
in a Usage Report table.
User Credentials
Three types of user credentials are supported by Web of Knowledge Usage Reporting System:
- IP Address
- Token ID
- Username and Password
WCI
Abbreviation for Web Citation Index
Web Services
Web-based information exchange systems based on
XML and standard communications protocols. A Web services subsession
is recorded when an outside Web application accesses an Web of Knowledge
database via the supported web services interface provided by Web of Knowledge.
A Web services query is recorded when request for data is submitted to a database in Web of Knowledge via a Web services client.
The preface WS- indicates a Web Services activity for the database.
Note: remote searching via ResearchSoft applications
(EndNote, Reference Manager, and ProCite) are not included
in the Web Services usage counts.
