Eliminating Self-Citations
Self-citations refer to cited references that contain an author name that
matches the name of the author of a citing article.
Sometimes it is desirable to eliminate self-citations from the results of a
Cited Reference Search. This can be done by combining a Cited Reference Search
with a search by the source author.

-
Perform a Cited Reference Search to find
items that cite the works of a particular author. Ensure that you complete both
steps of a Cited Reference Search.
-
Go to the Search page. Enter the name of the same author in the Author field.
Click the Search button.
-
Go to the Advanced Search page.
-
Combine the two searches you just completed in a Boolean NOT expression (for
example, #1 NOT #2). The results of the Search (the items
written by the author) should be the set on the right-hand side of the operator.
- View the results of your search.
