MEDLINE®

MEDLINE is the premier database of the U.S. National Library of Medicine (NLM). It contains over 12 million records of journal articles in all areas of the life sciences, with particular emphasis on biomedicine. MEDLINE records are created by NLM and collaborating partners.

Source publications for MEDLINE cover basic biomedical research and the clinical sciences. Major subject areas include nursing, dentistry, veterinary medicine, pharmacy, allied health, and pre-clinical sciences. MEDLINE also covers life sciences that are vital to biomedical practitioners, researchers, and educators, including some aspects of biology, environmental science, marine biology, plant and animal science as well as biophysics and chemistry. Increased coverage of life sciences began in 2000. By the end of 2001, most citations previously included in separate NLM specialty databases had also been added to MEDLINE.

Database Coverage: 1950 to present

In-Process Records

When you select a timespan or change limits, you have the option of searching both MEDLINE and In-process records. In-process refers to records of very recent articles. These articles have not been fully indexed, and therefore their records may lack MeSH headings and other information.

Did You Know ...

MEDLINE includes records from OLDMEDLINE, which covers the biomedical literature from 1950-1965. These records lack some of the detailed indexing evident in MEDLINE records.

About the All Databases Search

The All Databases search function allows you to search all products in your institution's subscription at the same time. It is available to institutions that subscribe to two or more products.

If your institution subscribes to only one product (for example, Web of Science Core Collection), then you will not have an All Databases option. In this instance, since you have only one product to search, the system takes you directly to that product's Search page.

To access the All Databases search option, go to the drop-down menu to the right of the Search label in the banner region.
