Journal Citation Reports®

Journal Citation Reports is a comprehensive and unique resource that allows you to evaluate and compare journals using citation data drawn from over 10,000 of the most highly cited scholarly, peer reviewed technical journals from more than 2,500 publishers in over 80 countries. It is the only source of citation data on journals and includes virtually all areas of science, technology, and social sciences.

As a research tool, Journal Citation Reports can show you the:

  • Most frequently cited journals in a field
  • Highest impact journals in a field
  • Hottest journals in a field
  • Leading journals in a field
  • Related journals in a field

Citation and article counts are important indicators of how frequently current researchers are using individual journals. By tabulating and aggregating citation and article counts, Journal Citation Reports offers a unique perspective for journal evaluation and comparison. It is recognized as the leading authority for evaluating journals.

Essential Science IndicatorsSM

Essential Science Indicators provides Internet access to a unique and comprehensive compilation of performance statistics and science trend data derived from data in Web of Science Core Collection. The chief indicators of productivity (overall influence) are journal article publication counts. Total citation counts and cites per paper are indicators of influence and impact (weighted influence).

Essential Science Indicators is divided into four main sections:

Citation Rankings: Using total citation counts and cites per paper, rankings are determined for the most cited authors, institutions, countries, and journals.

Most Cited Papers: This analysis provides a collection of the most highly cited and hot papers. Papers are selected based on percentile rankings in specific fields of science and time periods.

Citation Analysis: This analysis includes Baselines and Research Fronts to identify criteria for highly cited papers and to track trends in current research.

Commentary: These brief editorial discussions provide guidance on data analysis and interpretation. The information enhances the tables, charts, and other data sets presented in the previous sections.

Publons

Publons is a profile used by researchers in the scholarly research community to claim, manage, and showcase their work. This includes:

  • Claiming their publications in the Web of Science
  • Managing and showing their full publication history
  • Tracking their Web of Science Core Collection times cited counts and h-index
  • Tracking their peer review history and editorial board memberships for scholarly journals
  • Identifying potential collaborators
  • Helping avoid author misidentification

Publons directly links to the Web of Science. This allows researchers to claim and manage their Web of Science publication history, and display their history next to their peer review and journal editing history.

Web of Science Group products (Web of Science, Publons, InCites, EndNote) use a unique identifier — a Web of Science ResearcherID — to match and disambiguate researchers across products. You can use a Web of Science ResearcherID to search for researchers across these products.
