Searching the Editor Field

Enter the name of an editor to search the Editor(s) field within a record. Be aware that a corporate author can also be an editor.

Enter full names or partial names using wildcards (* $ ?). Join multiple names with the Boolean operators (AND, OR, NOT).

Editor names appear on the Results page and Full Record page as last name followed by a first name and/or initials.

Case

Use upper, lower, or mixed case. For example, Lee (or lee) is the same as LEE.

Editor Names

Even though the product captures names exactly as they appear in the source publication, you should search for names by using various forms of the name. For example:

• Johnson finds Johnson M, Johnson SM, Johnson-Delaney Cathy A, and so on.

• Johnson M finds Johnson M.

• Johnson M L finds Johnson M. L.

• Johnson M* finds Johnson M, Johnson ML, Johnson M. W., Johnson Markes E, and so on.

• John finds John as the last name and as the first name.

• John* finds John as the last name and as the first name. It also finds Johne, Johnson, Johnston, and so on.

Note: Entering Johnson M. L. is not the same as entering Johnson ML and may results in fewer records being returned by the product.

Note: Some initials may contain a period (for example, Johnson M. L.) while others do not (for example, Johnson ML).

Boolean Search Operators

Separate two or more names by the AND, OR, or NOT search operators. Last names containing a space should be searched with and without the space. For example:

• Leone SR* AND Johnson MA* finds records of articles edited by both people.

• Leone SR* OR Johnson MA* finds records of articles edited by either person or by both.

• Johnson MA* NOT Brand L finds records of articles edited by Johnson MA but not Brand L.

Last names containing a space can be searched with and without the space. For example:

• van Dongen OR vanDongen finds the same name.
