Author Record

An author record is a set of articles likely authored by the same person. Author records are generated by a proprietary algorithm that identifies and weighs shared data elements such as author names, institution names, and citing and cited author relationships.

These records are listed in order of size; the group with the largest number of articles is at the top of the table.

To view the records in a group, select the checkbox, and then click View Records. You may view records in more than one group at the same time.

An author may be associated with multiple groups because:

• The author may have changed institutions or locations
• The author may be working in multiple research areas
• The author may be citing a wide range of works in different articles published in different years

Claiming an Author Record

We recommend, if you're the author listed on an author record, you claim the record. Do this by clicking Claim this Record. Claiming the record takes you to publons.com where you can register for a free account. Alternatively, you can bypass registration and sign in with your Web of Science email address and password under Already a member.

Only you can claim an author record as your own. If you have a proxy, they can only suggest a correction to your author record.

Author Record: Suggesting a Correction

Anyone with a Web of Science account can suggest a correction to an author record by clicking correct a record under Suggest a Correction. Be aware that:

• you need to provide details about your relationship to the author.
• our editorial team manually reviews all suggestions, which is a longer process. The time it takes to review submissions and make corrections depends on the complexity and volume of submissions.
• changes to the author’s name or organization go through our Customer Support team.
• after our team verifies your suggested corrections and updates the author record, we send you an email to let you know.
• if you’re the author of the record, use Claim a Record instead of submitting a correction.

Opening a Document Results Summary Page from an Author Record

Open a Document Results Summary page from an author record by clicking View as a set of results to export, analyze, and link to full text. This summary page gives you more options for reviewing an author's record. For example, the Export drop-down menu includes options to print, email, and export to EndNote Desktop.

Analyze Results

Analyze Results gives you a visual representation of an author's records using a tree or bar graph. You can select from a number of attributes including document type, languages, and publication years. Save a copy of the visual graph(s) to your device by clicking Download above the graph. 
In addition, to download a tab-delimited text file, under Save a download option select Data rows displayed in table or All data rows (up to 100,000) and click Download.

Create a Citation Report

You can generate a citation report by clicking Create a Citation Report. You have the option to change the time period of the author's record. The fields are automatically generated to include 1900 through the present year.The citation report includes metrics for:

• Total Publications
• h-index
• Average Citations per Item
• Sum of Times Cited
• Sum of Times CIted Without Self-Citations
• Citing Articles
• Citing Articles Without Self-Citations
• Sum of Times Cited Per Year

Save this report from the Export Data drop-down menu as an Excel or text file.

About Author Names

Different authors may be represented by the same name in the product database. For example, Richard J. Johnson and Robert J. Johnson may appear as Johnson RJ.

Conversely, the same author may be represented by different names, particularly if he or she has a long publication history. For example, Barbara Demmig-Adams is indexed as:
