Semi-colon delimited format. This is a text format
that uses semi-colons to separate fields. A file in this format may be imported
into a spreadsheet application.
Importing a semicolon-delimited file into Microsoft®
Excel:
- Open the file in Microsoft Excel.
- Select column A to highlight all of the
rows.
- On the Data menu, select the Text to
Columns command.
- Select Delimited as the original data type.
Click Next.
- Under Delimiters, select Semicolon.
Click Next.
- From the Text qualifier list box,
select {none}. Click Next.
- Select Date as the Column data format.
(This selection should apply only to column A.)
- Click Finish.
TVS
Tab-delimited format. This is a text format that
uses tabs or tab characters to separate fields. A file in this format may be imported
into a spreadsheet application.
Importing a tab-delimited file into Microsoft®
Excel:
- Open the file in Microsoft Excel.
- Select column A to highlight all of the
rows.
- On the Data menu, select the Text to
Columns command.
- Select Delimited as the original data type.
Click Next.
- Under Delimiters, select Tab. Click
Next.
- From the Text qualifier list box,
select {none}. Click Next.
- Select Date as the Column data format.
(This selection should apply only to column A.)
- Click Finish.
XML (COUNTER)
XML format. The schema for the XML document is available at http://www.niso.org/schemas/sushi/counter3_0.xsd.

If you open the spreadsheet in Microsoft Excel,
you will see that the dates are not in the exact format prescribed by COUNTER.
For example, COUNTER prescribes that the date the report was run should be in
this format: yyyy-mm-dd. In Excel, the date run is in this format: mm/dd/yyyy.
Also, Excel displays the month and year at the top of each column as mm-yy and
not mm-yyyy.
Note:
Subsessions are renamed Sessions in COUNTER reports, and Queries
are renamed Searches.
